Lydia tours with her band GEOFFREY’S NEPHEW (named after an unfortunate fellow listed in the Magna Carta) in the U.S. and Canada. Performances feature a variety of songs from Lydia’s various albums, plus new material that is so fresh it hasn’t had a chance to be recorded yet.
Lydia McCauley & Geoffrey’s Nephew features:
LYDIA McCAULEY – vocals & piano
PHIL HEAVEN – viola
BRIAN CUNNINGHAM – acoustic & electric guitar
LYNNE GIVIER – double bass/vocals,
KEITH CARPENTER – acoustic guitar/mandolin
The naming of Geoffrey’s Nephew
“Whilst in London last spring,” chuckles Lydia, “I found the name for the band. I visited the British Library and noted an exhibition of the actual Magna Carta, 1297, widely viewed as one of the most important legal documents in the history of democracy. A closer look at the translation told the story of several people having to leave their offices, possibly having to leave England altogether. Among the list was Andrew de Chanceaux, Philip Marc and his brothers, and Geoffrey’s nephew. It struck me as funny. I liked the way it rolled off the tongue.”
